Applications and Approval Process
Application Guidelines
• Educators may receive one STELLAR grant per year (September - August). The only exception is the K-12 Mathematics Bursary route. That is, educators may receive a bursary and another STELLAR grant (e.g., for a conference). Or, educators may receive two bursaries in two separate semesters.
• Applications for STELLAR routes must be submitted at least one month (by date) in advance of projected start dates. The only exception is applications for a K-12 Mathematics Bursary. Details about the application schedule for the bursary route can be found here.
• STELLAR funding is not retroactive.
• For some STELLAR routes, applicants must secure agreement from school administration(s).
• Please note that the STELLAR application form will NOT be available during the month of March.
Application Process
- Educators should take some time to review the Newfoundland and Labrador Standards of Practice for Mathematics Teaching (NLSPMT) and identify an area or topic about which they would like to learn more.
- Each Standard is accompanied by some suggested resources, but educators may suggest a different resource if they choose, and EDU will review their suggestion when the application is received.
- Then, educators should choose a STELLAR route to help them meet their professional learning goal(s), as identified through the NLSPMT, and complete an application form.
- Once fully completed application forms are received by EDU, they will be reviewed.
Proposal Review Process
• In considering candidates and applications, the selection committee shall give consideration to the following criteria:
-
the potential benefits of the professional learning to professional growth and development, and clear connections to the NLSPMT;
-
any previously granted professional learning monies under the STELLAR program;
-
the funding capacity of the Department of Education (EDU); and
-
a first-time applicant to STELLAR.
• Successful applicants will be notified by email of approval of funding by EDU.
• The review process of a completed application may take approximately four to five weeks.
• Incomplete packages and/or applications lacking detailed information will slow down the review process. Applicants may be contacted to provide clarification before funding can be recommended.
